Scope
The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. This position will be responsible for all accounting tasks and activities throughout the entire accounting cycle from daily balancing to quarterly and annual reporting. The Accounting Manager is also expected to make recommendations to the President/CEO for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position supervises one staff accounting specialist. This position must meet tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and financial reporting.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Five years credit union accounting experience required
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or Business Management is preferred but not required
Must be PC proficient and have strong Microsoft Excel and Word experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure including reconciling General Ledger and bank accounts
Oversee the daily operations of all financial, statistical, and accounting records
Works with auditors/examiners on annual comprehensive audits
Responsible for all closing entries, F&E, Prepaids, Accruals, Courtesy Pay Allowance, Loan Allowance etc.
As a member of the Management Team, assists in the formulation/execution of Credit Union policies, strategic objections and programs
Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates employee performance within the department
Calculate breakeven points on new programs or promotions of the credit union
Develops, manages and maintains reliable accounting information on income, expenses, assets, liabilities and capital for management planning and decision making and for fulfillment of all financial reporting requirements
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
Complete NCUA Call report, Government reports (945, 990, 990T & FR2910a), Property Redemption report, and the Unclaimed Property report in an accurate and timely manner
Work with the President to produce budget and forecasting activities
Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Respond to inquiries from the President regarding financial results, special reporting requests or analytical analysis
Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and industry best practices
Work with third party processors to ensure accurate data recording (i.e. core systems, shared branching, payroll, card processing, etc.)
Responsible for creating annual budget and monitoring variances throughout the year
Create board packet each month which includes financial reports as well as trend reports
Monitor interest rate liquidity risk provide ongoing reports to President
Create cost comparisons when contemplating new vendors
Balance Payroll & Retirement reports with General Ledger
Responsible for handling record keeping and balancing of Petty Cash fund
Send payroll and pension deposits and balance back to general ledger
Evaluate cost of funds when projecting rate changes
